First Camp Sjöstugan is situated on a promontory jutting into a large lake (Möckeln) in the south of Sweden. On this family campsite you may choose your own spot on the lake shore. You camp here amidst nature: on grass under trees, with a splendid view of the water. In the nearby town of Älmhult, the first IKEA store was opened in 1958. Nowadays, there is an IKEA museum here.

Amidst greenery

First Camp Sjöstugan is attractively located on a wooded promontory. You camp here on grass under tall trees. The site slopes and has substantial height differences. There are no demarcated pitches. If you arrive early in the day, you are likely to have a wide choice of pitches. If you get there a bit later, chances are that you will stand on a less level pitch. Make sure you bring adequate tools to level your camping equipment.

Terrace by the water

The campsite offers a variety of catering facilities, including a beautiful restaurant directly by the water. The view from the conservatory and the terrace is spectacular. 

Beaches and islands

Möckeln is a large lake which lends itself perfectly to various watersports. Furthermore, it is an ideal spot for fishing. Along the wooded banks of the lake there are numerous jetties, pebble beaches and sandy beaches. The campsite has its own beach with a jetty and beach showers. You can hire canoes, kayaks and rowing boats to explore the lake. Tip: pack some food and sail to one of the many islands for a picnic. Adjacent to the campsite is Bökhults Badplats, a public beach which is very popular with swimmers. It has floating play equipment in the water for children.

Travelling party: Couple

Der Campingplatz hatte Anfang des Jahres einen Betreiberwechsel von privat zu First Camp.
Als langjährige Stammgäste von Sjöstugans sind wir vom neuen Betreiber First Camp total enttäuscht. Wenn man so einen Namen führt, sollte man auch einen ordentlichen Service zu annehmbaren Preisen anbieten.
- schlechterer Service am Platz - z. B. wird kein Kanutransport mehr angeboten und auch kein Bring- und Abholservice zum Bahnhof
- Mülltonnen oft übervoll
- kalte Duschen wg eines defekten Boilers über den gesamten Urlaub (bei Anmeldung kann man dann im Hotel duschen)
- nur eine funktionierende Waschmaschine (2. war schon bei Ankunft defekt und nach drei Wochen immer noch)
- Sanitär, Küche, Waschmaschinenraum nicht mehr so sauber wie in früheren Jahren (des öfteren fehlte am Abend auch bis zum nächsten Tag Toilettenpapier)
- überhöhte Stellplatzpreise die täglich wechseln (werden lt. Angabe des Destinationschefs in einem Algorithmus nach Angebot und Nachfrage berechnet)
- Vorauszahlung des gesamten Aufenthaltes, bei evtl. früherer Abreise keine Rückzahlung, aber Platz wird am gleichen Tag neu belegt (d. h. zweimal bezahlt)
- auch Zahlung im Shop (Eis, Kleinigkeiten) ausschließlich mit Karte
- die Dauercamper sind komplett weg und mussten sich nach einem anderen Campingplatz umsehen
- Anzahl Stellplätze neu nur noch 70 (statt vorher ca. 130)
- nie voll belegt, obwohl anders angegeben - besonders Hotel und Hütten waren schlecht belegt (und das im Juli)
- war bisher immer ein \"Durchgangsplatz\". Das wurde auch weniger durch die neuen Modalitäten.

Fazit:
Wir haben unter den Bedingungen das Beste aus unserem Urlaub gemacht.
Aber wir werden uns sehr genau überlegen, ob wir nach 15 Jahren als Stammgäste weiterhin Gäste in Sjöstugans Älmhult sein wollen.
Schade, es ist ein so schöner Platz direkt am See Möckeln mit so vielen Möglichkeiten, der bis zum letzten Jahr (privater Betreiber) zudem auch von der guten persönlichen Atmosphäre Mitarbeiter/Betreiber mit Gästen lebte. Das ist nun völlig abhanden gekommen.

Ich kann daher auch auf keinen Fall eine Empfehlung für den ACSI Award geben.

Der Platz wurde Anfang 2023 vom Besitzer an First Camp verkauft. Jetzt wenig Service für viel Geld pro Übernachtung. Völlig überzogen.
Viele bisherige (alte) Services wie z. B. Transport von Kanus zu einer anderen Einsatzstelle werden nicht mehr angeboten. Buchung online und Bezahlung im Voraus. Keine Erstattung bei eventuell früherer Abreise. Vor Ort Bezahlung (Eis etc.) ausschließlich mit Karte, kein Bargeld.
