Camp sites in Somogy
Camp sites on the south shores of Lake Balaton are located in the Somogy region, a tiny region with an area of just 6 square kilometres. Lake Balaton is Europe’s largest fresh water lake and certainly a paradise for campers. For a start, the camp sites around Lake Balaton are popular for the lake itself which slopes gently from the shore making it suitable for children. Thanks to its average depth of only 3 metres the water temperature is most agreeable. You can rent surfboards and sailing boats and go water skiing and parasailing at many camp sites on Lake Balaton.
Tourism plays an important role around the extensive Lake Balaton and there is plenty of choice of restaurants, bars and other places of entertainment. It is especially good if you are on a camp site in Hungary during one of the many summer festivals! You will frequently come across the word “csárda” on your camping holiday at Lake Balaton, it means a bar or restaurant. Besides eating and drinking well (Hungarian wines are very good!) there is often dancing to traditional Hungarian music.
