The village of Le Grand-Bornand lies in a fairytale setting in the French Alps, at an altitude of no less than 1,000 metres. Just south of this mountain village you will find Camping l'Escale. This campsite is located on spacious grounds at the foot of the famous Col de la Colombière, a renowned mountain pass in the Tour de France.

Views of high mountain peaks

At the beautiful campsite entrance, in the same building, are the restaurant, the swimming pool complex and the children's playroom. Behind the campsite you can see a hill with charming wooden mountain houses. The spacious site is divided into three fields with large pitches on a hard grass or gravel surface. The sanitary facilities are extremely clean and tidy.

Swimming indoors or outdoors?

Whatever the weather, great swimming is always possible at Camping l'Escale. The indoor pool is well heated and connects to the outdoor pool, which is located on a sunny terrace above the reception. The sun loungers around it invite you to enjoy a book, the view or just the peace and quiet.

Eating in a lovely atmosphere

Anyone entering the rustic restaurant 'La Ferme du Pépé' will feel instantly welcome. Campers can indulge in delicious specialties here. The village of Les Clusaz further down the road also offers good food. Or you could make your own summer meal at the campsite's barbecue and picnic area. Fresh bread rolls are available at the reception for breakfast. And don't forget to taste the local cheeses.

Travelling party: Young couple

Liked - Lovely site, very friendly family run business. Clean showers and toilets, plenty of hot water. Toilet emptying point and motorhome service point. Nice little indoor pool (outdoor closed in winter) bread can be ordered from reception in school holidays. Choice of EHU amps, this time we had 10 amps, on a previous visit booked last minute we only had 3, you pay a different rate for each per day. Pitches are partly gravel, we had no issues moving after a lot of rain. Restaurant on site is lovely, but need to book from reception. Site well located a five minute walk from the village.
Disliked - The pitches would be improved with a bit more gravel and a little more space between vans, although we had space this time.

Liked - Great site, our 3rd year in a row staying here. Ideal for the slopes. The ski bus stops at the entrance to the campsite every few minutes and is only a 5 minute ride to the lifts.
Staff are very friendly and very helpful.
Breakfast available to be ordered from local bakery.
Facilities clean and tidy, showers are decent and the local town is very nice.

Liked - The campsite facilities and it's location, with the bus stop at the entrance and only 10 minutes walk into town.
The restaurant is very good too.
Disliked - Unfortunately our electricity kept tripping, although it did not happen if there were only two pitches using the box.

Liked - Perfect location for the ski bus, 2 mins on the bus to the slopes. Lovely swimming pool. Clean tidy site with warm showers. Morning bakery delivery was also nice.
Disliked - Luckily we were able to upgrade the power rating on electric supply. 3 Amp would have caused us problems with a larger motorhome.

Liked - Just on the edge of town, bus stop to ski lifts right outside the campsite. We ran out of gas and the site helped change our hose to a French version so we could use the French gas bottle.

Liked - location, very close to the town and navette for ski lift
Disliked - pitches are very muddy - pitches running water disconnected (I guess during winter months to avoid frozen pipes but...) - some showers don't work - washing up sometimes didn't have hot water

Liked - The accommodation was spotless and very comfortable, very close to all amenities, swimming pool fantastic, The restaurant on site provides excellent food and service. Overall experience fantastic, I will booking again for next year.
