Sarah Willis, on this campsite in June 2022
Travelling party: Family with children, 4 – 12 years
I have been camping in France for years now and have experienced plenty of issues for campsites- but not all in one site and definitely not at the incredibly high rates charged by Sandaya so I felt like I had to write this so it might help someone. It seems like a lot of sites have been taken over by this company and I hope I never have to write anything like this again.
The nearest sanitary blocks to the camping area we were in (at the bottom of the site) were completely closed, meaning much longer walks to get to another sanitary block. One of the two blocks in walking distance however had no hot water at all during the time we were there so you could only really use one of them.
So the only sanitary block we could use had a great number of the shower and sinks out of order. Every single one of the hooks in the shower cubicles had fallen off the walls by the time we left and due to the design of the shower there’s then nowhere to put anything (towels, clothes etc.) once you’re in there. There are no hooks in the toilet cubicles. I also don’t understand why you’d go to the trouble of installing soap dispensers if you’re not going to have any soap in them (especially with all the Covid “wash your hands” signs still up in there everywhere).
I think the sanitary blocks could so with signs reminding people to squeegee the shower cubicle after use- as a seasoned camper I knew to do this but it seemed not many others did.
The tent camping area we were in had no lighting whatsoever most nights, so it was pitch black, meaning that any evening walks to the sanitary block were unpleasant at best, dangerous at worst and the area felt unsafe. Adding that to the bad road surfaces in the camping areas makes it clear that the site is much more interested in those in the chalet accommodation, and as we were camping using our own tent (i.e. not in a chalet) we were not as important.
The restaurant/snack was closed and there was no entertainment on Sunday, there was no kids club for our child and she (aged 5) wanted me to add she would have liked the nightly mini disco to have had more than just one song (the same one every night).
In a more general sense, the pool has a strange sort of layout and was definitely not big enough. We were there at the beginning of June so was generally very quiet but when more people came on one of the weekends (due to it being a national bank holiday) it was packed so I dread to think what its like in July/August.
The wifi prices are also extortionate- in 2022 I wouldn’t expect my phone internet charges to be cheaper than the wifi ones. There’s also not many leaflets for the area at reception and make sure you like frogs, there’s a massive frog pond (the noise!!) and they hop all over the site at night.
