Camping Saintes Grandes Rives is just a ten-minute walk from Saintes, one of the most beautiful towns of the department of Charente-Maritime. You camp along the Charente river, where you can enjoy wonderful bicycle rides. This river also offers many options for water sports enthusiasts. Because it is located a couple of kilometres away from the A10, this campsite is often used by campsite visitors in transit.

Spacious site with large pitches

The trees on this site include plane, ash, poplar and maple trees, some of which are already many decades old. As a result, a good portion of the pitches are in the shade. The site is spacious and the pitches are large. If you want to camp by the water, some of the pitches are by the river. You can also book a stay in a modern safari tent or a tiny house.

Restaurant, swimming pool and water sports

This campsite has its own restaurant with delicious dishes, located at the campsite entrance, which is also where the outdoor swimming pool is. Fun in the water can also take place in the Charente river, where you can practice water sports as well. Kayakers especially love to navigate the river, which twists and turns through a landscape that varies from city to meadows and woods.

This centre is home to the Arch of Germanicus and an amphitheatre, with a good selection of Gallo-Roman heritage, not to mention all the other historic monuments, medieval buildings and narrow streets.

Travelling party: Couple

Nice municipal campsite, lovely trees beautifully landscaped and well looked after
very close to town centre with a partial cycle track in but then you have to go on the road.
Fantastic Roman history to the town very pretty lots of nice restaurants and all in all we had a fantastic two night stay.
The toilets are semi open air as are the showers very French and at this time of year there were no markings for the pitches
We were just told go where you like so we did!!

Very helpful woman on reception but this is not a 3 star site the pool is full of green algae and the sanitaires are old and worn out, some of the showers don’t work properly. It’s a pity the town has let it go, Saintes is an interesting town with lots to see and is only a short walk away it could be so good.
