In the southern part of Brittany you will find Camping Le Deffay, between the village of Sainte-Reine-de-Bretagne and the small town of Pontchâteau. The campsite is situated on the grounds of an 18th century castle in a green setting. In the old outbuildings of this castle you will find a snack bar and the campsite shop.

Camping between tall trees or by the fish pond

The spacious camping pitches are located between old tall trees and allow you to opt for a pitch with either lots of or somewhat less shade. The pitches around the small lake are sunnier and have a view of the water abounding with fish. In addition to camping pitches, campsite Le Deffay also has rental accommodation (mobile homes, chalets and bungalows). The accommodation units near the lake are generously spaced.

Covered or rather not?

There is a heated swimming pool with a toddler pool of which the roof is retractable, if so wished. There is a special chair to get into the pool for guests who require assistance to enter the water. Next to the swimming pool is a solarium where you can enjoy the sun in warm weather.

Pedal boating on the lake

There are opportunities on campsite Le Deffay to play volleyball, tennis and pétanque. There are trampolines and games for children. You can fish in the lake, but you may also choose to go pedal boating. Surrounding the lake is a fitness track, called: Body Boomer. Outside the campsite are pathways which are ideal for jogging.

"Beautiful and very quiet campsite, there is choice between marked pitches under the trees or a more sunny place around a small lake where one can enjoy free water cycling or fishing for carp or eel. Near the national park "de Briëre", wetland nature reserve with numerous bird species."

Liked - Lovely site, no complaints about it.
My biggest problem was there was no one at reception on the Sunday we arrived. It took over an hour, and only with the help of a good Samaritan who managed to contact the owner on our behalf were we able to gain access to the camper site. We had paid in full prior to arrival. We had received an email on the previous Friday which was to have a code for access, but they never inserted the code. The lack of communication to emails and phone was most unsatisfactory and stressful.

Liked - Nice big pitch right next to the lake. Opening times of restaurant differed from website to real life but BBQ night was good. Nice wine. Pleasant staff.
Disliked - Shower block very dated, men’s toilets there was only one cubicle with both a lock and a toilet seat.

Liked - Landscaping, large pitches nicely shaded.
Disliked - Wash block very poorly maintained. Only 3 gents toilet cubicles. One had door lick broken. One had paper dispenser unusable. Not very clean. Shower drains were blocked leaving about 2 cm of dirty water flooding the cubicles. Went to est on the Friday night but told only food was moules frites

Liked - Spacious and peaceful site with a pretty lake and a swimming pool. Pitches are large and various shade levels available.
Disliked - On arrival we were told to pitch anywhere but had no map to see where our pitch-types were located. Reception was supposed to be open on the Sunday we arrived but after our initial contact did not see any staff for help. The bar, restaurant, main toilet blocks and dish washing facilities were either closed or locked. We had no code to enter or leave the site so after our planned one night stay left by the entrance on which the barrier was left open for the duration of our stay.

Travelling party: Family with children, 4 – 12 years

Liked - We had a fantastic stay at camping deffay, check in was supper easy with receptionists speaking perfect English self allocation pitched was also good as we had plenty of choice on this large site
Disliked - Was great to have staff all speak English and have English signage around the site assist non French speaking residents.

The (restaurant) was the biggest let Down of the campsite as it lacked any comfort and felt abit unloved

Menu was in French only (making it hard for non French speaking persons to see what was on offer)

We managed to order steak and chips for us adults and nuggets and chips for the children

When we received our child sized steak and chips we was informed there was no nuggets left for the children so we had to order them a pizza and wait for it again

Liked - Unfortunately very little to like. Booked for 4 nights, stayed only 1
Disliked - Showers, 1st no shower head, 2nd no lock on door, 3rd cold water. No food available restaurant, takeaway, food vans, and bar all closed. Very few on site so assume word has got round. Would not book again, very disappointing.

This is a beautiful quiet site. it\'s run by the Baron who is very helpful and friendly.the pool is across the road and is heated and. very warm. Sometimes in the evening he opens the bar. There is one restaurant withing walking distance open at lunchtime. For quiet country camping you couldnt wish for more.
