Camping right next to a castle: that is possible at campsite Château de Martragny. This castle campsite is located in the French department of Calvados, close to the Normandy beaches. A twenty kilometre drive takes you to the coast. The campsite itself is one big playground for children. They can run across the lawns and play everywhere. And of course, diving into the swimming pool is also a favourite activity of the younger campers. Those looking for peace and quiet will find space and freedom.

Space and freedom on your pitch

Space and freedom: the two key words of this campsite. On the one hand the camping site is filled with apple trees. On the other hand, there are large, open lawns. The spacious pitches on these lawns are not really defined. Therefore you have a free view. And you always have a view of that beautiful castle that towers above the trees. In this castle, you can have breakfast and delicious dinners. You can also choose a pitch a little further into the forest. Where it is extra quiet and shady.

One big playground, with swimming pool

For children, the campsite is one big playground. There is a playground on the site where they can climb and clamber around. But they can also let off steam on the large lawns. So don't forget the football, the boules and badminton rackets, because there is plenty of room for them.

Looking for another great spot for the whole family? Behind the castle is the swimming pool. Quiet laps are particularly attractive in the low season, when there are fewer families staying at the campsite.

Liked - Swimming pool, orchard plot, playground, bar/shop courtyard, staff, restaurant.
Disliked - Showers could have been cleaner and water hotter.

Liked - We chose this site, having stayed at other Castels sites in the past and have been very satisfied. The reception and welcome was great, lots of information about the region, well stocked shop.
Disliked - Our pitch was incredibly tight. Not enough room for the caravan and car and small porch awning. Luckily our friendly Dutch neighbours allowed us to park on theirs. The site was really busy. There was no hot water in the showers in the morning, and pitches are incredibly cramped so there is a complete lack of privacy.

Liked - Staff was friendly and there was always fresh bread in the morning. There’s a large field for children to play. Restaurant was very good for a campsite!
Disliked - The toilets and showers could have been cleaner, with a lot of children at the campsite it wasn’t cleaned enough. Shop only opened at 9am and there were always queues. Could have opened a bit earlier.

Liked - This is an absolutely stunning setting, with the Chateau in the centre, lots of trees, a courtyard reception/shop/restaurant, great facilities that were clean despite the size of the site. The best part for us was the open air pool with view of the Chateau

Liked - Shop, bar , ease of entry and exit to site and location
Disliked - Pitch was very tight due to overhanging apple trees and branches .Sjoeers for more often cold than hot especially if you took a shower after 9am. Toilets were not clean , the bowls needed to be clean , not just sprayed with lemon .

Liked - Liked everything really but especially the restaurant. The little/slim lady waitress with glasses who spoke really good English (sorry didn't get her name) was an absolute delight. she is an asset to your company, is a wonderful waitress, chatty (given she was very busy) and made us feel very welcome. Loved her! the food was nice too!
