In the beautiful and wooded region of Champagne-Ardenne, you'll find the peaceful Camping La Forge de Sainte Marie. Here you come to quietly enjoy an authentic piece of France, far away from the crowds. What makes this place special is that you stay between the old buildings of a historic forge. In the former workshops, you can now swim or eat.

Pitches by the pond

The campsite consists of neat fields with many trees and plenty of open space. The pitches are terraced and offer ample privacy. The most beautiful spots are along the pond. Besides camping pitches, you can also rent neat mobile homes. The activities on the campsite are adapted to the public. In high season, there are children's activities and a kids club.

Swimming pool in old workshop

In the former workshop of the forge is a fine indoor pool with a large whirlpool. Outside is a sunbathing area, so in the summer you can dry off in the sun. You will also find various sports fields, TV room and table tennis table on the premises. For the children, there is a bouncy castle and trampoline in the summer. More entertainment is available in the form of playgrounds. About an hour's drive away is the Nigloland amusement park with lots of fun attractions for the little ones.

Charming restaurant

In one of the old stone buildings, you will find the attractive campsite restaurant. Here you can eat well at very reasonable prices. There is a nice terrace on the water. You can also buy fresh bread at the campsite itself.

Travelling party: Couple

hand on heart I can say this is THE worst site I have ever stayed on.
Not peak season so things are expected to be less than optimum ? The prices would suggest otherwise. And this is without the surcharge for the one night “short stay booking fee” 18th June should be fully functional I would think.
My habit of only booking the first night has paid off as multiple nights here would be a nightmare. After the one night I’m tempted to ask for a refund it was so poor but should I waste my holiday time and energy ?
The place wasn’t full, yet they put us on pitch 71 a small rough pitch that looked like it was the site of bonfires, overlooking a building site. We declined this pitch and ended up on pitch 66 which was green and quieter until 6:15am. When the pitch tap was used initially out poured rusty brown water. So not yet been flushed through I would suggest.
The restaurant wasn’t open on our days there. It’s an adhoc part time thing that you find out once on site. Thus we enquired about using our own BBQ this was refused. I believe they hire them though !! (Should have stayed on pitch 71 you can bonfires on there and others!)
So come prepared with wonderful French bread and cheese for those sandwiches that you’ll be making after that long drive to get here.
Many of the cabins don’t look finished when we looked around the site balanced on breeze blocks for all to see. But some where occupied. There are plenty of new cabins so the investment is there yet the wider site and pitches look sad and neglected. The building site appears to be aspirations of a swimming slide complex that I can’t see happening before 2025. So 2024 summer season of work next to the new cabins and astroturf seating area next to the indoor pool, the work seems to start at around 6:15am we found out the next morning to a chorus of machines and their reverse warning bleepers.
The toilet block nearest our pitch was (for the ladies as my wife tells me) rationed to one shower cubicle with a lightening quick press button operation and one small wash hand basin but without water. For that you have to use a big laundry sink.
Will I be coming back ? dear god no. Will I be recommending it to friends - no not if i want to keep them.
This review is unusual for me as I rarely feel moved to comment but as a 60 something man trying to enjoy a holiday with his wife away from the rat race of work, this place disappointed.
