What’s the best way to sell your caravan?

16 January, 2018

Are you ready to sell your caravan, but not sure about what that involves and how to go about it? We have a few tips you can use when selling your caravan, whether you do so individually or through a caravan company.

Before you put your caravan up for sale, it’s a good idea to follow a number of steps to make sure your caravan looks as good as new, so that people who see it will get a good first impression.

  1. Tidy is best: Make sure that you’ve cleaned everything, and that you’ve removed all your personal belongings. This will make your caravan look like new.
  2. Technical problems: If you want to sell your caravan for a good price, you’ll need to make sure that everything still works as it should. Can the levelling supports still be used easily? Do the lights work? Are the tyres in working order?
  3. Maintenance: If you’ve got an overview of all the repairs and maintenance checks, keep it to hand when you’re selling. This will give the potential buyer confidence in you.

Planning to sell your caravan yourself?

If you’ve got the time to sell your own caravan, and don’t mind putting some effort into doing so, you have a number of options. You could advertise your caravan, try to find a buyer among people you know, or put your caravan up for sale on a sales site like Ebay.co.uk  – if you choose this option, make sure to attach good photos of your caravan. Demand for used camping vehicles has grown in the last few years, so there’s a good chance you’ll find someone to buy your caravan quickly.

If you’ve found someone to buy your caravan, you can register your caravan at CRiS, but it is not obligatory.  When you sell your motorhome, you need to inform the DVLA using a V5C form.

Professional help selling your caravan

Just as when you sell your house, you can also find agents to help you sell your caravan. For a fee (mediation costs and appraisal costs) the caravan can be placed in a showroom where people who are interested in buying a second-hand caravan can come and find the one of their dreams. No hassle for you, as promotion and managing viewings are all taken care of by the caravan company! If they can’t sell your caravan, you won’t need to pay any mediation costs.

Part exchanging your old caravan for a new one

If you want to sell your old caravan because it’s time for a newer model, then consider the possibility of part exchanging it. This is where you trade in your old caravan in order to help pay for a new one. And if you do this using a certified caravan company, you can be sure to get a good exchange deal or sale price.

What is my caravan worth?

If you’ve decided to sell your caravan, it’s useful to know what it’s worth. Of course, that’ll depend on a number of factors, including whether your caravan is damaged or not. It’ll also depend on the age of your caravan, and whether you’re selling it with accessories such as an awning, caravan mover or satellite dish.
