Countryside versus city

Do you prefer to camp in the middle of nowhere and immerse yourself in nature, or do you prefer the big city and an abundance of culture? A difficult choice of course as there’s plenty to be said for both. And fortunately, one does not exclude the other. Below we suggest two very different campsites for you to choose from: a campsite in the middle of the Greek countryside, and a city campsite near to bustling Vienna.

In a small corner of Europe, on the Greek peninsula of Chalkidiki, lies Ouranoupoli Campsite. Here, you can camp right on the beach, with your tent amongst the pine trees, and nothing but nature all around. In the morning, you can unzip your tent, or open the door of your motorhome or caravan. Put your bare feet on the dewy grass and look out over the sea. What a way to wake up!

You can buy fresh bread for breakfast at the small campsite shop. Start the day together around the dining table, making some plans for how to spend the day. It’s a half-hour walk to the nearby town of Ouranoupoli. A beautiful walk along the coast. Of course, a day under the bamboo umbrellas at the beach is also a good option! Perhaps you can combine these plans.

Ouranoupoli Camping is in the middle of the countryside, is a little smaller than some of the other nearby campsites, and really is at one with the surrounding landscape. The camping pitches are surrounded by trees and bushes, and you can see the beautiful countryside from every part of the campsite. But it’s not all back to basics here. The necessary basic facilities including a toilet block and a small shop are here. There’s a restaurant which serves delicious traditional Greek food.

These types of campsites are perfect if you’re looking for peace and quiet: perfect if you want to enjoy freedom and silence. All you’ll hear is the rustling of leaves and the chirp of the birds. Cycling, walking, swimming and visiting a village every now and then; it’s all possible from a more rural campsite like this one.

Close to the city

Schönbrunn Palace, Hofburg Palace and the Vienna State Opera; all wonderful places that you can easily visit from Donaupark Klosterneuburg Campsite. That’s one of the advantages of camping at a campsite close to the city. You can plan ahead for the places you’d like to see and the restaurants you’d like to eat at. But don’t panic – if you can’t do everything on your list today, you can always come back later in the week. After all, you’re camping nearby!

You’ll be in the middle of the old city centre in half an hour by bus from this campsite. You can buy tickets for the bus from the campsite reception. Here you’ll also find discount tickets for public transport, in case you plan to visit Vienna on several different days. There are also discounted tickets available here for various attractions nearby.

Prefer a sportier way to get into town? Then grab a bike and take the Danube Cycle Path to Vienna. The old city centre is a 14 km bike ride away. On the way you’ll enjoy the beautiful Danube, and you can even stop for a coffee on the waterfront somewhere. Another advantage of going by bike is that you’ll be able to get around town easily.

The best of both worlds

But what if you want both countryside and city? Luckily, there are campsites close to towns that are also in a pretty location. So you can easily leave the crowds behind. And Donaupark Klosterneuburg Campsite has all sorts of facilities to allow you to relax after a busy day exploring the city. You can get free vouchers from the reception that will allow you to take a dip in the nearby swimming pool. Want a day away from the campsite, but not into town? Klosterneuburg is also a small wine region, and there are various wine bars where you can taste the wines!
